We are very pleased that the Doctors’ Appeal is joining as a partner to Covid Memorial Day.
As a partner, they will help spread information about the Covid Memorial Day through social media, newsletters, and their website. Discussions are also ongoing about possible ways to further develop the day in the future.
The Doctors’ Appeal (Läkaruppropet) is a Swedish initiative comprising doctors and medical researchers who, during the COVID-19 pandemic, expressed criticism of certain measures introduced to manage the pandemic.
The initiative was launched on March 12, 2021, by doctors Sven Román, Nils Littorin, and Sebastian Rushworth through an opinion piece in Expressen titled “Stop the Harmful Corona Restrictions.”
The appeal advocated for three main changes:
1. Increased targeted protection for risk groups: Implementing protective measures specifically for the most vulnerable groups in society to reduce their risk of contracting COVID-19.
2. Reduced restrictions for the general population: Easing general restrictions affecting the entire society, arguing that such measures lack sufficient scientific evidence and may cause more harm than good.
3. Opposition to the implementation of vaccine passports: Rejecting the use of vaccine certificates as a requirement for participating in various societal activities, citing constitutional rights and the risk of discrimination.
The Doctors’ Appeal emphasized the importance of basing public health measures on scientific evidence and avoiding actions that could lead to negative consequences for public health and society at large. They highlighted studies questioning the effectiveness of lockdowns and stressed the significance of natural immunity following infection.
The initiative gained support from thousands of individuals, including doctors, researchers, and members of the public, who signed the appeal to express their agreement with these positions. The Doctors’ Appeal continued to serve as a platform for debate and information regarding pandemic management and related medical and ethical issues.
